WOMEN PLAYWRIGHTS!
THE LOOKING GLASS FORUM, a twice-yearly festival in which up-and-coming female directors present their interpretations of new and classic short works, is now seeking new short plays (running time 15-40 minutes) by women. There is no restriction as to style or subject matter, but we are particularly interested in pieces that explore the possibilities of the theatrical medium. We require plays to include at least two good roles (no monologues, please), of which at least one should be female. Bear in mind that it is easier for us to cast roles in the 17-35 year old age range.
THE LOOKING GLASS THEATRE is also looking for late-night plays and children's plays by women to include in our season. These plays should run between 30 and 90 minutes and include at least one strong female role. Late-night plays should be funny, sexy, scary, bizarre or all of the above. Subtlety is not an asset in this catagory. Children's plays may be musical or non-musical and should be suitable for ages 3-10.
We do not accept unsolicited full-length scripts.
Enclose a cover letter with your contact information on it. Production history and biographical info are also useful. If possible, please submit an email (digital) version in addition to the hard copy. Send complete scripts, by mail, to:

Scripts may also be dropped off in person at the address above during office hours: Mon&Wed 10-6, Fri 10-2. Hours subject to change. Call 212-307-9467 to confirm. Email versions should be sent to lgtlit@yahoo.com Please send only one script per email and put the title of the play in the subject line. In the TEXT of the email, provide a brief synopsis, character breakdown, and approximate running time. You should also mention if you have had a play produced at Looking Glass before. Please do NOT use Final Draft or WordPerfect formats, as we do not own this software. Please do not send submissions by email without an accompanying hard copy. Because of the new postal restrictions it is no longer practical for us to return manuscripts. We apologize for the additional expense to you.
Always put your name and address on your script. We will accept up to three (3) submissions at once. The deadline for the Winter Forum is September 1, but later submissions may be considered for subsequent Forums. The Forum is not a union production.
There is no pay available for authors or anyone involved. It is a labor of love! Click here to find out more about The Looking Glass Forum.
We look forward to hearing from you,

LITERARY MANAGER
WOMEN DIRECTORS!.
The primary way to become a director in the Forum is through our Assistant Directorship Program. ADs are hired throughout the year for all Looking Glass Productions including the Forum itself. All Assistant Directors are eligible to direct in the Forum.
Directing experience is a prerequisite for the AD position. School experience is often acceptable..
For aspiring directors who have no actual directing experience yet, you may enter the Assistant Directorship Program by first being a Production assistant on one of our mainstage works. Then you may go on to Assistant Direct. We have given directors their very first chance to direct in this manner and it can lead to as much involvement as those who start as AD's.
The AD also acts as a Stage Manager. To this end we hire two AD/SM's per show in order to ensure both artists have plenty of time for creative involvement. AD's attend all rehearsals and performances of their production.
Directors who enjoy the Forum and work hard are asked back to direct again and again with possibilities of longer and more complex work. The Looking Glass theatre is committed to these artists creative growth and acts accordingly. Many directors continue to grow in the Forum for years. Many have gone on to Direct our Mainstage work.
To apply please send a resume and cover letter as text to admin@!ookingglasstheatrenyc.com. Mention that you would like to be considered for the Assistant Directorship Program. You may hear back right away but if there is no current need for ADs, please be patient, it might be as long as a couple of months. If you do not have access to email please mail to:

Highly experienced directors may become involved through two professional reccommendations one of which must come from someone personally know to a Looking Glass staff member. Then we must be given ample opportunity to see your work. At that point you may be invited to direct, skipping the Assistant Director step.
This is how our company gets to know artists. We do not hire directors for our mainstage work nor do we produce full length work without having first gotten to know them through a Forum!
