---------------
Our Acting Internship program has a Fall, a Winter, a Spring, and a Summer season - typically a 15-week session. Each intern must work eight (8) hours per week, which can be divided into two (2) four-hour days, one (1) eight-hour day or otherwise, working in our theater and office. Hours can also be made up by house-managing as well as working on current Looking Glass productions and events.
Office work includes: script reading, finding and clipping articles from pertinent publications, event planning, mailing list maintenance, filing, daily cleaning, accounting assistance, grant research, correspondence, fundraising activities, marketing, restocking and continued organization of props, costumes, fabric, and lumber. Interns will also contribute to set and costume construction if necessary. In other words--everything! Office work is done in a pleasant and laid back environment where you will make connections and friends.
In exchange, our Fall and Spring Interns are given free monologue coaching and free acting class, and will be cast in our Looking Glass Forum at the end of the internship. The Looking Glass Forum is a festival of one-act plays produced in our 60-seat black box theatre space.
Our Winter and Summer Interns have a similar performance opportunities in an informal showcase setting at the end of the session and are given free acting classes and monologue coaching.
All interns will also have the opportunity to collaborate with emerging playwrights and director on new material in workshop sessions.
Internship Policy:
*More than three missed classes results in dismissal. This will be strictly enforced.
*16 hours (two weeks) worth of sick days are allowed without makeups. Beyond that hours must be made up. No intern can be behind by more than two weeks. That means if an actor owes more than 16 hours, they can be dismissed. This means that if an actor has missed four weeks total without making anything up, they will be dismissed. If an intern has not made up all of their hours by the time they leave the program, they cannot get a letter of recommendation or put the internship on their resume.
*If an actor has a special circumstance (chronic illness or family emergency) they should speak to the staff as soon as possible.
*Hours may be canceled on short notice for auditions but the actor MUST call three hours before their hours begin and should do everything in their power to give us more notice. Again, any hours missed must be made up.
